Situated on the corner of Shaftesbury Avenue and Windmill Street it was owned and operated by J. Lyons and Co. and was, for the first 40 years one of its most profitable enterprises. According to J. Lyons historian Peter Bird: "In 1896 and for several years afterwards, a nine course meal at the Trocadero cost half a guinea, but lunch was 3 shillings and less expensive
