Gilt Burmese Sadaik Manuscript Chest - Ca 1900 Style - Temple Jar Often the part ebonised woodenThis exceptional Burmese sadaik manuscript chest dates to around 1900, from the early colonial period following the fall of the Konbaung dynasty. Likely originally displayed on a stand, this teak chest was used to store sacred Buddhist texts and ceremonial items. The exterior is richly adorned in red lacquer with elaborate raised gilt decoration known as thayoa traditional Burmese technique where a hand applied putty made from tree sap and ash is used
