My Grenadian grandmother would take the cocoa pods from the fruit, sun it, then pound it in the mortar with the pestle, soft it, then grind it in the milk, roll it and shape it into the cocoa. Of course, she would add her special spices to it as well. I can still see her sitting right outside the kitchen under the staircase with her apron
