Description

‘Black’ clones of chantinii seem to cover anything that is not green

We are not sure of the exact origin although most of the similar clones come from the Andes of Venezuela near the Colombia border

The inflorescence is long lasting and this is a good landscape plant

The undersides of the leaves have a medium dense covering of white scurf

Noted for its outstanding bulbous shape with wavy margined leaves that are very wide at the base and narrow abruptly where they bend to flare out at the ‘neck’ of the plant

Tillandsia trelawniensis vipp 5-21 ‘Black’ clones of chantinii seemA rare, smaller relative of Tillandsia fasciculata from Jamaica, although our specimen sourced from the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (SEL 1986 0480) came from the Dominican Republic via Luis Ariza Julia. It is unknown where he got the plant. Very narrow, silvery gray leaves in an upright rosette to about 7 to 8 inches with a multi branched inflorescence of bright red with light blue flowers. A very attractive, rare, small species.
