The pearlescent glaze shows the speckles in the clay and gives a lovely pearl effect

and shows through the coral glaze on the textured design

This planter was thrown on the pottery wheel and the design carved by hand

It is a Raku piece and should be cared for differently to the other dishes

When it was dry enough to handle, the design was carved away using the sgraffito technique, revealing the dark brown clay underneath. It was finished by glazing with a clear coat, then fired in the kiln at 2170F. The clay is a dark brown black ceramic stoneware. H: 4. 5" W: 6. 5" D: 6. 75"
